Creative vision in landscape photography

On the elements that turn a landscape photograph from a pretty picture into a work with depth, statement and feeling.

About the lecture

Not to capture nature.
To create with it.

The session invites you to look beyond the technical side of photography and into the art of creative vision. Asaf speaks about the elements that turn a plain landscape into an image with depth, statement and feeling — and about how a visual language and a personal artistic vision are built, beyond the gear and the settings.

Whether you have years behind the lens or have only just started, the lecture is meant to challenge and to inspire: to see landscape differently, and not merely to record it but to create with it.

Structure

Two parts

The lecture is given as one session, and a segment on Dying Beauty can be added to it. Length, emphasis and depth are adapted to the audience and the setting.

Creative vision in landscape photography

The main part is about developing a visual language and a personal artistic vision — beyond the technical side and the equipment. What separates recording a landscape from making something out of it, and what makes a viewer stop at one photograph and move past another.

02

Behind Dying Beauty

A segment that can be added, giving a look behind the scenes of Asaf's long-running project at the Dead Sea — on sustained work, on a place that keeps changing, and on photography as a way of saying something.
